ABOUT THE MAKER

Dave Austin is an exciting and experimental artist based in New Zealand whose work moves between functional and sculptural ceramics.

Often bold, or gestural, Austin’s work draws inspiration from a variety of styles and techniques, combining eclectic references with his Maori heritage and connection to symbols, spirituality and story-telling.

He is strongly inspired by authentic Japanese pottery techniques such as Raku; he experiments with these techniques to make his dynamic bold sculptured pieces. His work has been regularly supported by interior designers, art directors, galleries, wineries, and ceramic collectors.

He has been showing his work across New Zealand and the UK since the late 90s.
